Sophia Lewis: Bringing Cakes into Fashion.

Sophia Lewis has been a fashion designer at the Hamburg based brand Closed for over 20 years.

The Welsh-born designer moved to Germany to work for Jil Sander after graduating from the world-renowned MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins in 1998.

Her interest in wellness has led her to follow a reducetarian diet over recent years. This has meant reducing meat, dairy, egg, grain, and refined sugar consumption along with a consideration for the planet in her general approach to life.

In 2020, Sophia started to develop updates to her Grandmother Doris’ traditional baking recipes for cakes, puddings, and bread. These are baking traditions from a Welsh kitchen updated for a modern world: vegan, refined-sugar and even some grain-free recipes created with her daughter Gwenifer.

The resulting book Dear Doris brings fashion into cakes and cakes into fashion. Sophia has written this cookbook with a sincere and heartfelt desire to provide alternatives for all of us who see the value in altering our ways to reduce our carbon footprint and embrace planet-based baking.
